Andre Onana has expressed disappointment with his initial performance at Manchester United but remains confident that he will ultimately excel for his new club. The Cameroonian goalkeeper took over from the long-standing number one, David de Gea, following his summer move from Inter, with hopes that his arrival would further establish manager Erik ten Hag’s vision, building on their previous collaboration at Ajax.
However, Onana’s time at Old Trafford has been marked by costly errors contributing to Manchester United’s challenging start to the 2023/24 season.
In a pre-match interview ahead of the Liverpool clash, Onana shared with Sky Sports, “If I have to talk about my season so far with Manchester United, I’m not pleased because I know I can perform much better. I’ve done it before, and I’m confident I will improve beyond the current situation. We’re going through a tough period, and I hope things will change as soon as possible. But, you want to tell me that in six months, the best goalkeeper in the Champions League last season can become the worst in the world? Nah. Everything is temporary. I know it’ll be alright. If not today, it will be tomorrow, if not tomorrow, the day after tomorrow.”

Despite increased pressure on Manager Ten Hag after recent disappointing defeats, Onana remains supportive, recalling their successful period at Ajax. “We had a successful period with Ajax. We reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and played brilliant football from the back. He’s a good manager. I like the way he works, the way he communicates with the players.”
Manchester United, currently seventh in the Premier League, heads into the Anfield match on Sunday without captain Bruno Fernandes due to suspension.
