Despite an impressive debut season at Old Trafford in 2022/23, Casemiro’s form has drastically declined this season. During Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football coverage of United’s loss, Carragher delivered a scathing critique of Casemiro, suggesting that he should retire after a few more games.
Carragher said, “I think Casemiro, deadly serious, should know tonight as an experienced player that he should only have another three games left at the top level, the next two league games and the cup final, and then he should be thinking, ‘I need to go to the MLS or Saudi’.”

Carragher emphasized that while Casemiro has achieved significant success in his career, it’s time for him to recognize when it’s best to retire. He stressed the importance of leaving football before it leaves the player, and urged Casemiro to consider moving on from top-level football.
Finding a new club for Casemiro may be challenging given his high wages and remaining contract term. However, Carragher believes that Casemiro should prioritize his well-being over financial considerations and retire from top-level football.
