Kogi State has been designated as an oil-producing state by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
This was stated in a letter issued to the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, by the Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation And Fiscal Commission, M. B. Shehu.

The panel confirmed the attribution of Oda River Oil well-1 to the state in a letter seen by our correspondent. The commission also “approved the allocation of Anambra River 1, 2, and 3 oil wells on a 50:50 percentage basis between Anambra and Kogi States awaiting the final demarcation of the boundary between the two states” in a letter dated August 24, 2021.
As a result, the panel stated that “Kogi State would begin to benefit from the 13 percent Derivation Fund as soon as earnings from the operations in the Oda River 1 Oil well or the Anambra River 1,2, or 3 oil well begin contributing revenue to the Federation Account.”
Meanwhile, Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State, has praised President Muhammadu Buhari for the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission’s (RMAFC) recognition of Kogi as one of the country’s oil-producing states.
During a visit to the State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday, the governor expressed his gratitude to Mr. President.
Bello, who spoke to press following a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, said he was at the Villa to thank Buhari for recognizing Kogi as an oil-producing state and to discuss the resuscitation of the Ajaokuta Steel Complex, which is also in Kogi State.
My visit to Mr. President this afternoon was to express my gratitude for his designation of Kogi State as one of the country’s oil-producing states. We also discussed the Ajaokuta Steel Complex, about which Mr President stated that “all efforts are being made to guarantee that the Steel Complex is completed before the conclusion of his government,” according to the governor.
With the recognition of Kogi and Anambra, he said, the age-old oil wells dispute between two communities of Odeke in Kogi’s Ibaji local government area and Aguleri in Anambra state, which resulted in unjustified killings and property destruction, has come to an end, praising Mr. President for the peaceful resolution of the dispute.
