Former Super Eagles media officer Toyin Ibitoye has commented on the salary expectations for newly-appointed Nigeria coach Finidi George, foreseeing a substantial remuneration package from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
After an interim period of nearly two months without a permanent manager, the NFF introduced Finidi George as the new head coach for the Super Eagles. With his extensive background, including experience as an assistant under former coach Jose Peseiro and recent leadership in international fixtures, Finidi’s appointment has generated anticipation and hopes for a successful tenure.
Referring to reports from Ojora Babatunde on X, Ibitoye highlighted the salary benchmarks set by previous foreign coaches, advocating for fair compensation for indigenous coaches like Finidi. “The last foreign coaches we had, one was on $48,000, the other on $70,000. How much are we going to be paying Finidi George? It shouldn’t be anything less than ₦30-40 million a month,” emphasized Ibitoye.

Regarding the transition, Ibitoye recognized the significance of Finidi’s appointment and hinted at the challenges ahead. “Finidi’s immediate task is to guide Nigeria through the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin. If he fails to do so, he could be replaced,” Ibitoye affirmed, stressing the importance of achieving positive results in upcoming fixtures.
