Following Poland’s disappointing showing in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, English football icon Steven Gerrard has emerged as a surprise contender to take over as their head coach.
After losing to France 3-1 in the World Cup round of 16 last December, Czeslaw Michniewicz’s contract was not renewed, and Poland is looking to replace him.
According to the Polish newspaper Meczyki, the FA of that nation has already gotten in touch with Gerrard, who has been out of work for the previous two months after being fired by Aston Villa.

Other possibilities on the list include Herve Renard, the Saudi Arabia coach who orchestrated a shock 2-1 victory over eventual World Cup champions Argentina, and Roberto Martinez, who took over as Portugal’s manager on Monday after parting company with Belgium.
Nenad Bjelica, Paulo Bento, and Vladimir Petkovi are a few further coaches being considered. Marek Papszun or Jan Urban are the two Polish choices.
After a brief time with Liverpool’s U18s and U19s, Gerrard began his management career in 2018 with Scottish Premiership powerhouse Rangers. In 2021, he helped the team win its first championship in ten years by going a complete season without losing.
In November 2021, the former Liverpool manager was named Aston Villa’s head coach. However, he was fired this season after a 3-0 loss to Fulham in October.
