According to Ajibola Basiru, the Senate’s spokeswoman, the Senate has revised its position on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) electronic transmission of election results.
However, the two chambers of the National Assembly passed differing versions of the Electoral Act’s electronic transmission of results sections 43, 52, 63, and 87.
While the Senate version requires INEC to acquire authorization from the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) and the National Assembly before using technology during elections, the House version allows the electoral body to use discretion.

The Senate was chastised by many Nigerians. INEC further stated that the Senate’s version would jeopardize its independence.
The INEC claimed to be able to send election results throughout the country.
Yesterday in plenary, the Senate considered the recommendations of both chambers’ Conference Committees, which recommended that the Senate’s version of the amending Act be scrapped.
The Senate approved e-transmission of results by the election commission by voice vote in plenary.
