Bashir Magashi, Nigeria’s Minister of Defense, has stated that bandits will only be labelled terrorists when due process is followed.
Magashi told this to media in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, on Friday.
Bandits have been accused of being treated with “baby gloves” by the federal authorities, prompting calls for the government to label them terrorists.

However, Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, has stated that the federal government does not distinguish between bandits and terrorists.
“We are not calling them terrorists because there is a procedure for doing so,” Magashi added.
They will be classified as terrorists if the procedure is followed. We’re awaiting the outcome of the treatment.”
The minister stated that he was in Maiduguri with the service chiefs to review the north-ongoing east’s insurgent war.
