On Monday, President Muhammadu Buhari confirmed the appointment of Ifedayo Adetifa as Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
Chikwe Ihekweazu, who was recently appointed as an assistant Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) in charge of health emergency intelligence, is being replaced by Adetifa.

Adetifa, a paediatrician and infectious diseases epidemiologist, received his first degree from the University of Ilorin in Kwara state, according to his profile on the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine’s website.
“I finished residency training in Paediatrics at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Lagos, Nigeria, for which I was given the Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians in Paediatrics,” according to the biography.
“I earned an MSc in Epidemiology from the School and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.”
Adetifa has also been nominated a member of the health sector reform committee, which will be chaired by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, according to a statement by presidential spokesman Garba Shehu.
