When Pele’s daughter Kely Cristina do Nascimento posted an emotional tribute and a photo of her father at the Albert Einstein Jewish Hospital in So Paulo on Instagram late Friday, it became clear that Pele’s family had decided to spend this Christmas in the hospital with him due to his health.

According to a hospital statement, the 82-year-old was hospitalised on November 29 for a respiratory infection and “re-evaluation of chemotherapy treatment on colon cancer detected in September 2021.” Pele’s condition has gotten worse, the hospital announced earlier this week, and he would now need more care due to the cancer’s growth.
