The Nigerian government has reacted to the coup d’etat that occurred in the Republic of Guinea on Sunday.
According to a video that went viral online, military took control of the country by suspending the present constitution and detaining President Alpha Conde.
In a statement made by Esther Sunsuwa, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Government denounced the military’s action, stating it violated the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.

โThe Federal Government of Nigeria firmly condemns and rejects any unlawful change of government and, as a result, calls on those responsible for the coup to restore constitutional order as soon as possible and preserve lives and property,โ according to the statement.
