On Saturday, a large fire broke out in the Qatari city of Lusail, sending high black plumes of smoke toward one of the World Cup fan communities.

Video showed a building’s roof on fire close to the fan community known as Qetaifan Island North. According to the authorities, the fire started on a city-owned island shortly after noon local time.
About two kilometres separated the fire from Lusail Stadium. As World Cup spectators walked amid its stores and eateries, it released thick, black smoke into the sky, which was visible from a bazaar in the heart of Doha.
The stadium will host a number of games throughout the competition, including an exhibition game between Argentina and Mexico on Saturday night.

The Civil Defence had the fire under control “without casualties,” according to the Interior Ministry of Qatar.
After Qatar was awarded the privilege to host the 2010 World Cup, building of Lusail was expedited, and Qatar’s $450 billion sovereign wealth fund has invested heavily in the project.
It is situated north of the capital city Doha’s West Bay and was built with 22 new hotels and additional attractions like a theme park in mind for the thousands of World Cup visitors.
There are shared bathhouses and 1,800 tents scattered around the fan village.
