France striker Kylian Mbappe has reportedly forgone “several tens of millions” of euros to facilitate a potential departure from Paris Saint-Germain, according to a source involved in the negotiations as of Thursday.
Under an agreement reached with the club last summer, Mbappe is said to have waived bonuses totaling approximately 60 to 70 million euros ($65.6 million to $76.6 million), thus financially safeguarding the club in anticipation of his likely exit when his contract concludes in June.
Despite claims from French daily Le Parisien suggesting an 80 million euro ‘loyalty’ bonus due last September and additional bonuses totaling 100 million euros, the negotiating source refuted these figures.

Mbappe, who has been free to negotiate with other clubs since the opening of the transfer window, emphasized the importance of the agreement he made with the club president during a statement on Wednesday after PSG’s Champions Trophy victory.
This arrangement ensures PSG’s financial protection in the event that Mbappe, yet to finalize a decision on his future, departs without triggering a transfer fee.
According to Le Parisien, Mbappe’s 2022 contract secured him an annual salary of 72 million euros, a signing bonus of 150 million euros, and a loyalty bonus rising from 70 million euros in the first year to 90 million euros in the third.
By fulfilling his commitment in Paris until June without extending his contract beyond, Mbappe could potentially secure a payment exceeding 200 million euros. In the absence of a transfer fee, he might expect a substantial signing-on fee from any club he chooses to join in the summer.
As of now, there has been no immediate reaction from Mbappe’s entourage, and PSG has chosen not to comment when contacted by AFP.
