The 23-year-old has been a crucial part of Graham Potter’s Blues team since his hiring in September and plays regularly for both club and country. However, despite club football taking a backseat for a few weeks, rumors about his future persist.
A new contract for Mount has reportedly been discussed in the past. The Mail, however, now asserts that he turned down a huge offer of more than £200,000 per week.
With a weekly salary of about £85,000, Mount is one of Potter’s team’s lower paid players. But his agents feel that a nearly two-and-a-half times larger offer is insufficient.
According to rumors, Mount wants to make almost the same amount of money as Raheem Sterling, a teammate at Chelsea. Following his summer transfer from Manchester City, the winger now makes over £300,000 per week.
After earlier this season securing the long-term future of Reece James, Chelsea intended to immediately complete a deal with Mount. They haven’t been able to come to an agreement, though.
As Mount’s contract expires, his worth will only decline. Juventus and Liverpool are two of the teams mentioned as monitoring his position.
This season, Mount has appeared in all 14 of Chelsea’s Premier League games, starting all but one. He has only scored twice and provided twice assists, and he was scoreless during the Champions League group stage.
In England’s games against Iran and the United States, Mount has participated as one of the midfield trio. However, the right-back for the former Three Lions claims that Phil Foden should hold that position.
