When it comes to domestic championships and European trophies, two Premier League heavyweights have been competing against one another for some years. Both teams have seen significant success in the English Premier League and cup competitions, but City has been more consistent, as Pep Guardiola’s team has won the title four times in the last five years, compared to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who have only won once.

Before Sunday’s rematch between the two teams at Anfield, De Bruyne explained to Sky Sports what sets apart two fiercely ambitious teams: “If you can control that style of play, then maybe you have more of a chance,” the coach said. “They are more of an up-and-down team and we are a team who has more control of the game.”

The midfielder for Belgium’s national team continued, “I expect them to be at the best Liverpool. The only way I can see it is that even though they lost some points, they are still Liverpool, and I still expect them to be successful. I enjoy major sporting events and lively environments. With nine Premier League games played and a total of 23 points, City is second in the standings heading into their matchup with Liverpool in 2022–23. The Reds, on the other hand, are mired in 10th position after accumulating just two victories and 10 points from their first eight games.

Manchester City has gone unbeaten in their previous 21 Premier League games and has only lost one of their last 37 games overall (W16 D5). The Citizens have gone 22 games in the Premier League without losing (W16 D6), which is the fourth-longest streak in the history of the league.

The Blues have won four points in their last two trips to Anfield, although they lost 3-1 to Liverpool in their most recent meeting, which took place in the customary Community Shield curtain-raiser at the beginning of the current season.
