Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi believes that securing 1-0 results is satisfactory at the moment, emphasizing that the Super Eagles’ primary goal is to win and advance to the next round at AFCON 2023.
In response to Nigerian fans urging the team to score more goals in the competition, the Fulham star, in a video on the social media platform TikTok, has pushed back, expressing that the fans are never satisfied. Despite facing criticism for scoring only three goals in the group stage, Nigeria secured a spot in the round of 16 after finishing second in Group A behind Equatorial Guinea.
Despite having created the most significant scoring opportunities (13) in AFCON 2023, the three-time champions have been criticized for their profligacy in front of goal. Iwobi, in response to these demands, defended the team’s performance and stated that he would gladly take any win. He mentioned that the team is working on improving their scoring and emphasized the importance of progressing to the next round.

“The amount of people that have been saying this sh**,” Iwobi began. “But I am just thinking, you lot are never satisfied. I will take a win by any means, at any cost, any tactic just to go through to the next round.”
Iwobi acknowledged the calls for more goals, stating, “Everyone is saying ‘more goals,’ ‘more goals,’ we are trying sha, we are trying. But fam, by any means, we need to win. So, one-nil victories, they are okay for now, boy.”
Iwobi and the Super Eagles will face the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the round of 16 on Saturday night.
