Chinwetalu Agu, a veteran Nollywood actor, has spoken out about his ordeal at the hands of the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services, or DSS.
The 75-year-old actor was apprehended in Onitsha, Anambra State’s Upper Iweka Bridge.
Agu was detained while participating in a charity event for wearing a Biafra-themed attire.

He was eventually released, but DSS apprehended him again.
Soldiers and DSS operatives treated Agu with dignity when he was detained, according to Agu.
“It didn’t start well, but God took charge,” he added. I was merely purchasing bread for the less fortunate. Soldiers entered and began scattering items. They claimed they were summoning me into the office, but they didn’t say what offense I had committed. I declined to obey them because they did not inform me of my offense.
That drama was necessary so that people would be aware that Igbo are present. Nobody touched me from the time we left Upper Iweka until we were at the army barracks near the Zik Mausoleum, the 82nd Division of the Nigerian Army, and the DSS office in Abuja. They were courteous to me.
Every officer wanted to be a part of the investigation so they could interact with Chinwetalu Agu.”
Following the intervention of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, the DSS released him.
