Former President Goodluck Jonathan will be offered the opportunity to run for President in 2023 if he joins the current All Progressives Congress (APC).

This was revealed by John Akpanudoedehe, National Secretary, APC Caretaker, and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday.

He did say, though, that Jonathan’s opportunity is not guaranteed, and that he will have to compete with other members of the party for the ticket.

“I am hearing for the first time that we are expecting the former President,” Akpanudoedehe stated. That’ll be fantastic news. We will warmly welcome him, which will benefit the party as a whole.

“The party’s last National Executive Council literally provided blanket approval to any individual, stating that if you join APC today, you will be considered a founder member.

As a result, everybody who joins the party today has the same chance to run for any post in the party. I’m not speculating since it’s always been that way,” he remarked.

Mai Mala Buni, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress’s Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary National Convention Planning Committee, and some APC governors paid an unprecedented visit to the ex-President in November 2020.

However, claims that Jonathan was set to abandon the PDP in favor of the APC ahead of the 2023 elections were debunked by the Peoples Democratic Party at the time.
