Prior to Friday night’s game at Brentford, Brighton players wore t-shirts in solidarity of teammate Enock Mwepu, who was forced to retire from the sport this week.
Mwepu, 24, announced his retirement from the sport this week following the discovery of a hereditary heart issue that put him at a high danger of suffering a fatal cardiac attack if he continued to play.

Emerging for their warm up, Brighton players donned shirts with the message ‘CHAMBISHI TO THE PREMIER LEAGUE, YOUR DREAM CAME TRUE. WE ARE ALL WITH YOU.’
The Brighton players’ shirts featured Enock Mwepu’s face, along with his squad number and a statement on the front.
The news this week about Mwepu, a crucial and well-liked player on the team that has had an impressive start to the season, rocked Brighton.
Adam Lallana told Sky Sports that it was “tragic” news and that it helped the team put their lives in perspective before the game at the G-Tech Community Stadium.
“Undoubtedly tragic news. Three or four days ago, we learned. It really broadens one’s understanding of life and what is important,’ he claimed.

Enock Mwepu’s forced retirement from the game was announced by Brighton this week.
Throughout the week, a number of prominent Brighton figures paid tribute to the midfielder. Chairman Tony Bloom assured Mwepu that he would continue to receive all the ‘love and support’ he needed as he moved forward.
“Everyone of us is utterly devastated for Enock.” While we are really grateful he has passed through that time, he and his family have had a difficult few weeks, and he has seen such a bright career cut short at such a young age,’ he said.

Mwepu, a Zambian international, joined Brighton last year and had a standout debut season wearing a Seagulls jersey.
This season, he made six Premier League appearances, including one in Brighton’s illustrious opening-day victory away to Manchester United. At the beginning of September, he made his final appearance for Brighton in a 5-2 victory over Leicester.
