The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognized Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), as the winner of the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State, after declaring the election inconclusive.
Soludo received 112,229 votes, defeating his nearest challenger, Chief Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 53,807 votes.
Senator Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress (APC) received 43,285 votes to finish third, while Senator Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) received 21,261 votes to finish fourth in the hotly contested governorship election.

A supplemental poll was held yesterday in the state’s Ihiala Local Government Area, where an election could not be held last Saturday due to a variety of factors, including security concerns in the area.
Prof. Florence Obi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, the state returning officer for the election, declared Soludo the winner of the poll after he received the highest number of legitimate votes cast.
“Charles Chukwuma Soludo, having satisfied the conditions of the law, is hereby proclaimed the winner and is re-elected,” she stated.
The APGA received 8,283 votes in the Ihiala supplementary election, while the PDP received 2,485 votes, the APC received 343 votes, and the YPP received 344 votes.
In that hotly contested governorship race, 18 political parties competed, but APGA received the majority of valid votes cast.
All else being equal, Soludo would be inaugurated in as governor of the state on March 17, 2022, when Chief Willie Obiano will have completed his second term of eight years in office. Soludo would lead the state’s affairs for the following four years after being sworn in.
