Achraf Hakimi, a defender for Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain, was honored as the finest Arab Sportsman of the Year at the Joy Sports Awards in Riyadh.

Hakimi won the top prize over Yazid Al Rajhi, Salem Al Dosari, and Mohammed Al Owais.

The PSG defender approached the podium with his ecstatic mother to accept the honor at the ceremony on Saturday in Saudi Arabia.

Hakimi showed his excitement and thanked his mother for her support before committing the occasion to his PSG and Morocco teammates.

The former Real Madrid and Inter Milan defender had a successful season with the French champions and also played for the legendary Morocco side that advanced to the World Cup semifinals.

Hakimi was instrumental in the Atlas Lions’ victory over Spain in the round of 16, scoring the game-winning penalty.

By surpassing the quarterfinal records of Ghana, Senegal, and Cameroon, the North Africans became the first African side to make it to the World Cup’s final four.
