Even though Sadio Mane isn’t even competing, SENEGAL put its relationship with Bayern Munich at danger by selecting the attacker for the World Cup team.

The former Liverpool player moved to Munich in the summer, and ever then, his old team hasn’t been the same.

He has continued to perform for his nation, though, and was eager to go to the World Cup in Qatar alongside them.

Despite this, Mane does not currently represent his country and is not eligible to play.

Why is Sadio Mane not participating in this World Cup?

Mane’s World Cup appearance was put in jeopardy after getting hurt in Bayern Munich’s final match before the World Cup.

Bayern was shocked when he was chosen to the Senegal squad because the German club had already ruled him out of the competition.

He has nevertheless traveled with the group and will be aiming to contribute in Qatar, although the injury will prevent him from playing in the opening games.

The nature of the injury was disclosed by Senegal’s board member Abdoulaye Sow, who said: “We will have to rely on playing the first games without Sadio and winning without Sadio since we have 25 players other than Sadio.

“It’s what happened to us, and nobody would have wanted it.”

The striker is therefore unfit to play but may make a comeback later in the competition.
