Funsho Adeolu, a veteran actor, has stated why he dislikes the term “celebrity.”
The actor, who prefers to be referred to as a thespian, explained that he dislikes being referred to as a celebrity because he is unique and dedicated to his craft, and that he is not in the business for the money or the fame.

“Perhaps it’s because I’m a one-of-a-kind.” Acting is something I’m very passionate about. It’s not about the money or the celebrity for me. That is why I dislike being referred to as a celebrity. I prefer to be referred to as an actor. A celebrity is referred to as a ‘diva,’ whereas an actor is referred to as a ‘thespian.’ A actor realizes that the show must go on regardless of what occurs. A thespian is concerned about getting the job done and passing on knowledge. It’s not simply about putting his face on the big screen.” Saturday Beats spoke with the role interpreter.
“I would like to see more professionals in the industry,” Adeolu stated when asked about the changes he would like to see in Nollywood. If you want to perform or work behind the camera, you must first obtain the proper training. It is not enough to have an interest in it; you must also have official training.
“It’s also important to safeguard one’s name and brand.” Some people are only concerned with generating money, while others are concerned with preserving a good reputation. Having a good name is preferable to anything else. “It’s important to have a name that future generations will be proud of.”
The actor and master of ceremonies also stated that the lack of standards in the industry is responsible for the low quality of some of the films churned out. He said, “The only reason people don’t do the real thing is because there is no standard. Someone (an actress) recently stated that they don’t know anything about the Actors Guild of Nigeria. I don’t blame her though. But, it was a slap on her face because if one is in an industry and one does not know the people operating in the industry, that means the person is not really in the industry in the true sense of the world. It was not wrong of her to have said she didn’t know about AGN. However, she should have found out what it takes to be a member of the guild.”
