The most recent guest on Lilian Afegbai’s YouTube program, Lilian’s Couch, is Nollywood star Timini Egbuson. Timini opened out candidly about his current connection with God and how the church had betrayed him during his participation on the program. Without further ado, let me summarize everything Timini stated.

During his appearance, Lilian asked Timini: “Every year it feels like you keep doing something bigger, your acting keeps getting better. Every movie I see you, you’re doing great, you’re killing it, you’re doing amazing. How is that for you? How has it been balancing that fame for you?” Timini responded:

For me, it’s just God. I’m not the most religious guy. I go to church Christmas, New Year, but I definitely know that it’s God because these things are things that I’ve not really said “oh this is XYZ”. Acting is something I love doing. Everytime I watch myself, I want to be better. And God has found a way to sha bring the right projects my way, and 12 years abi 13 years of me acting, I’ve been consistent. I don’t think there’s anybody in our generation that has been that consistent in terms of the best quality projects, cinema, Youtube, web series, and still remaining relevant and still making the business of acting look lucrative for the people coming in. I feel like I deserve flowers. It’s God.

Then she asked him, “What is your relationship with God? I don’t know, I’ve never asked you this question. But what is your relationship with God?” to which Timini said:

I feel like me and God have a personal relationship. I’ve been betrayed by the church in the past, do you get? Like, I was a full church boy. In teenage church, I used to preach in the main church on Sundays. Everything you think I have now in terms of like swag and whatever, it was in church that I learn it. Christ’s Chapel. Then I went to some other churches. But I just realized that there’s a lot of pretense. And I know it’s not a reason to stop going because obviously. So basically you know, it’s just a thing where I was just like okay let me find this man called God on my own. And that’s what we are doing right now. There’s someone I’m seeing, or talking to, right now that introduced me to this whole Bible plan. I mean, sometimes I just lie to her when she asks “have you checked it this morning?”, “I checked the first page”, but like, it’s a process. In terms of like reading the Bible again and all that, I’m not really there yet but like one on one relationship with my God. Talking to him saying “how far baba? this is what I’m doing” and He’s been helping me make the best decisions so far. And it’s calm.
