Because of his own objectives, Martin Odegaard might not have been acquired by Bayern Munich under Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola reportedly asked former player and Bundesliga expert Jan Aage Fjortoft in 2015 whether he could persuade Odegaard to join Bayern Munich.

However, the eminent manager eventually obtained a response from the Norwegian center-forward Fjortoft that proved to be correct.

Fjortoft described his 2015 meeting with Guardiola in Sport Bild, during which they spoke about fellow Norwegian Odegaard:

Pep Guardiola approached me at the Bayern training camp in Qatar and put his finger on my chest before telling me, “You have to bring him to Bayern, I’ll make him the best player in the world.’

“There is an issue, because you will soon be leaving Bayern Munich yourself, I said in response. Then all of a sudden, he was quite still.

Odegaard burst onto the scene in his teens, winning over Bayern and Guardiola to be recruited by Real Madrid in 2015 after winning full international recognition for Norway at the age of just 15.

Guardiola’s time in Munich would come to an end after the 2015โ€“16 campaign. He left in the summer to take over at Manchester City, proving Fjortoft correct.

Since then, he has led them to four Premier League championships, while Odegaard has become the leader of a revitalized Arsenal team that may easily defeat them this season.
