Olmo’s transfer from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig to Barcelona was officially announced on August 9, with the La Liga giants reportedly paying £51 million for the Spaniard. Despite the announcement, Olmo has not featured in any of Barcelona’s three matches this season.

The delay in his debut is due to Barcelona’s ongoing financial difficulties, which have prevented them from registering the new signing. The club had hoped to finalize his registration before their league match against Athletic Club, but this did not happen.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Barcelona is working on player exits to resolve this issue. Clement Lenglet’s move to Atletico Madrid is imminent, and there are also discussions about selling Andreas Christensen, who has drawn interest from Premier League clubs. These moves could provide the funds necessary to register Olmo.

Barcelona praised Olmo’s talent, noting his strong performances during Euro 2024 and his ability to score from various positions. Olmo expressed his gratitude to RB Leipzig on social media, reflecting on their shared success and his time with the club.

“Thank you RB Leipzig, you’ll forever be in my heart,” Olmo said.
