Fela Kuti, who was famed for his Afrobeat style of music, laid the groundwork for many modern-day Nigerian musicians such as Wizkid and Burna Boy, among others, who are paying tribute to him.
Abami Eda was a Nigerian multi-instrumentalist, bandleader, composer, political activist, and Pan-Africanist known as Fela Anklápó Kuti. He is considered the father of Afrobeat, an African music form that blends traditional Yoruba percussion and vocal techniques with American funk and jazz.
He was born on October 15th, 1938, and died on August 2nd, 1997. In his honor, the annual Felabration is held.
