Mikel Arteta has dismissed Ruben Amorim’s criticism of Arsenal’s use of set-pieces, defending his side’s approach by stating that they simply aim to “exploit the weaknesses” of their opponents.
Arsenal secured a 2-0 win over Manchester United on Wednesday, with goals from Jurrien Timber and William Saliba, both coming from well-executed corners in the second half. United’s head coach, Amorim, expressed frustration after the match, accusing Arsenal of not playing well and relying too much on set-pieces, with wingers Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli attempting to win dead-ball situations from wide areas.
Arteta, however, refuted these claims, emphasizing that his team focuses on exploiting every opportunity to target their opposition’s weaknesses.

“We play with inverted wingers, so they often come inside, leaving space for the full-backs or the central striker to exploit. We need to look at every angle, observe what the opposition does, and then take advantage of their weaknesses,” Arteta explained.
When asked if teams are now cautious about conceding corners against Arsenal, Arteta replied, “I don’t know. We work on what we work on. We attack the box in different ways, and we are efficient at it. We will keep improving.”
Arsenal’s victory saw them close the gap to league leaders Liverpool to seven points, with the Reds held to a 3-3 draw by Newcastle United.
