The first of October through the 31st of October in the year 2022 is Black History Month in the United Kingdom. Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori, two English football players, took the chance to talk about their Nigerian heritage.

You can tell that Oghenetega Tamaraebi Bakumo-Abraham and Oluwafikayomi Oluwadamilola Tomori are of Nigerian descent when you hear their names. They were both born in 1997, are excellent friends, and discussed their shared upbringing with The Secret Scout as part of Black History Month.

Tammy described how growing up in a neighborhood with African restaurants and businesses selling African cuisine helped him immerse himself even deeper in the African culture. They engage with other players who have comparable backgrounds, he added.

We are English but also Nigerians, Fikayo continued, adding that they feel fortunate to have the best of both worlds. He discussed how they may mock events that occur in both England and Nigeria.

The next thing Tammy mentioned was that although both cultures are distinct, it’s beneficial to have both in one’s self. People responded to the post by expressing their satisfaction with what the athletes said.
