Chelsea’s head coach, Mauricio Pochettino, has shouldered his portion of the blame for the recent downturn in the club’s performance and has also urged his players to acknowledge their responsibility.
The Blues suffered a humbling 4-2 defeat against Wolves at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, resulting in Chelsea dropping to 11th place in the Premier League table. Discontented fans expressed their frustration during the match, chanting the name of former owner Roman Abramovich, booing the players at half-time and full time, and directing jeers at Raheem Sterling upon his substitution. Insults were also hurled at Pochettino by supporters near the dugout.
During the post-match press conference, when asked about the players’ capability to compete for a top-four or top-six spot, Pochettino stated, “I think we are all not good enough. At the moment, that is the reality. I think myself is the first person responsible for this situation. What we were showing today, we are not good enough, I agree with you 100%.”

Acknowledging that the situation was not managed properly, Pochettino emphasized collective responsibility, stating, “I don’t want to come here and say ‘I am the best and the players are the worst’. I think we are all responsible, even the players take responsibility like I take it.”
Highlighting the need for critical self-assessment, Pochettino admitted that the team is not currently reflecting the club’s historical standards. Despite the challenges, he emphasized the commitment to hard work and the willingness to explore alternative approaches to improve performance.
“The most important thing now is to feel the responsibility, we need to accept the organization and the players we have, and to understand the fans is important. We want to apologize and say sorry,” Pochettino expressed, adding, “If we want to take good results in the future, we need to stay together.”
