Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is poised to return to management with Championship side Plymouth Argyle.

Rooney has been out of coaching since his dismissal from Birmingham City. However, he has now been approached by Plymouth and may take over the team, according to the UK Telegraph.

Plymouth is in need of a new manager after sacking Ian Foster, who was let go in April following a disappointing run of eight losses in 11 games. Despite this, the Pilgrims managed to avoid relegation to League One.

Rooney’s potential return to management is bolstered by his close relationship with Plymouth’s director of football, Neil Dewsnip, whom he knows from their time together at Everton.
