The 23-year-old later assisted the Reds in their 2-0 victory by successfully containing Rangers dangerman Ryan Kent. Van Dijk has made it plain how much he admires the Englishman after his outstanding performance, even though Southgate does not share that opinion.
“We’re all having trouble. I hope we eventually reach the point where we are leveling off again. We all strive for that, and we all want it. We all enter the gym to become stronger, quicker, and better, but there is no quick fix; it doesn’t operate that way, he said.
“If it operated in that way, it would be much simpler. Alexander-Arnold has been demonstrating it over the past few years, and he has become one of the nation’s top right-backs. In the end, Southgate is to blame if he isn’t selected for the team.

“We are aware of his quality, and now he demonstrated it once more. But I’ve been in the UK for eight or nine years now, and everyone here is really excellent at extolling a player to the skies and then letting them crash to the ground as forcefully as possible,” Van Dijk continued.
“We as players have to deal with that. Everyone is arguing that we ought to embrace it. We all need him to simply keep working, to deal with it and respond today. This goes for him as well as the other players.
“I believe it’s critical that we support him, the manager, the team, and the supporters in order to do that. No matter what the public may think of him, we always stand by each other and are determined to regain the consistency we have demonstrated over the past few years. We will arrive. I have faith that we will all succeed.”
