Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, claims that among the three branches of government, lawmakers are the ones that Nigerians misunderstand and criticize the most.

He claims that Nigerians hold parliamentarians accountable for everything, even for circumstances that are beyond of their immediate control.

This was said on Sunday during the 100th birthday colloquium of Second Republic politician Senator Kunle Oyero, which was hosted by the Abeokuta Grammar School Old Boys Association in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The senator was represented by Senator Shuaib Salisu, a senator from Ogun Central.

According to Akpabio, the legislature is the one branch of government that the public doesn’t truly comprehend and that is frequently mocked and attacked. In actuality, there are instances when people believe lawmakers do nothing at all.

The issue is that the electorate’s metric for evaluating lawmakers’ performance differs from what is taught in the curriculum. According to the syllabus, a legislator’s three main responsibilities are to enact laws, carry out oversight duties, and make appropriations.
