Unai Emery has been named the next head coach of Aston Villa to take over for Steven Gerrard, who was fired last week.
Following prior rumors that Emery was planning to leave Villarreal for a return to England, the Spaniard’s signing was officially announced on Monday via the club website.

“Unai arrives from Villarreal, a team he helped win the Europa League by defeating Manchester United in the final in 2021 and go to the Champions League semi-finals last year.
“Unai is a very skilled top-level coach with over 900 games under his belt. He has also previously had managerial positions with Arsenal, taking them to the Europa League final while managing in the Premier League.
Additionally, he has had a great deal of success with Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain. He won the Europa League three times in a row in Seville between 2013 and 2016, and then he won the French Ligue 1 championship, two French Cups, two French League Cups, and two Trophée des Champions.
Following the completion of his work visa processes, Unai will take over on November 1st.
After managing to win just two and lose six of the first eleven Premier League games he oversaw, Gerrard was fired.
