Osimhen skipped Monday’s training session to attend the CAF Awards 2023, where he secured the Men’s Player of the Year award in Marrakech, Morocco. The 24-year-old promptly returned to Naples after the ceremony.

The Nigerian forward is anticipated to be part of Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, commencing in January in Cote d’Ivoire. Depending on Nigeria’s progress in the tournament, Osimhen could be away for about a month.

Mazzarri hinted at the need for Napoli to adapt to Osimhen’s potential absence, saying, “The AFCON is around the corner too, so we know we must do without him for a while. We have two good players like Giacomo Raspadori and Giovanni Simeone.”
