Mykhailo Mudryk has come under fire from former Chelsea attacker Joe Cole for his role in the team’s Champions League loss to Borussia Dortmund.

Karim Adeyemi’s outstanding goal gave Signal Iduna Park the victory over Chelsea on Wednesday night, 1-0.

A Blues corner kick was cleared to Adeyemi at the edge of the box, where he scored the winning goal. The 21-year-old attacker then sped past Kepa Arrizabalaga and Enzo Fernandez to score into an empty net.

The Chelsea defense has received harsh criticism, and while last man Fernandez has received the majority of the criticism, Cole believes another player is to blame. Nothing should be taken away from the quality of Adeyemi’s goal.

The Dortmund speedster’s closest rival, Mudryk, was unable to contain him, therefore Adeyemi was able to run the entire field without much resistance.

Cole, a former Chelsea player, remarked on BT Sport that Mudryk “has to take some of the blame.”

If the ball drops [on the edge of the area], an attacking player can say to themselves, “okay, I can score a goal here.”

Right, turn on defense as soon as you realize the ball has been cleared. He simply lets [Adeyemi] escape from him.

“I think speedy players sometimes lose focus because they think they can get away with it because of their speed.

Chelsea has only won two of their past 14 games across all competitions, and Graham Potter was also unhappy with how the goal was allowed to be given.

In his post-game press conference, the manager observed, “It’s a bad goal and we have to perform better.”

At the moment, we were the better team and were pushing. We are therefore disappointed that the concession was made in that way.

“The players are honest, and they are aware that this might help them perform better. Naturally, we must assist them, but we shall concentrate on the good.
