In preparation for their match against RB Salzburg tomorrow night, Chelsea held an open training session today. As usual, the session was used by the reporters and cameramen present to break injury news.
They took a fast census and identified two absences. Since N’Golo Kante is injured, no one anticipates seeing him return for a time, but Edouard Mendy also didn’t appear to be present with the rest of the group.
He is definitely not visible in the session videos from Sky Sports.
His performance has deteriorated since he made a bright start at Chelsea, and it’s unclear whether the new manager will give him a shot with the starting lineup.
In the contentious incident against West Ham a few weeks ago, he received a kick to the ribs, but that injury wasn’t serious.
Graham Potter will undoubtedly be questioned about it in the ensuing news conference, and we’ll keep you posted on his comments in subsequent posts.

Recall that Potter conducted his first interview with the club’s official social media outlets while posing for photos with co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.
It is the beginning of a pretty exciting time. I was genuinely taken aback by the new ownership, first by the people and then by the club’s goals, said Potter.
‘The history of the club speaks for itself but it’s about attempting to replicate that again in our own way.’
