Tottenham Hotspur has decided to extend the loan of RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner for the 2024/25 season.
Werner joined Spurs in January on loan until the end of the 2023/24 season, with an option for the club to make the move permanent for approximately £15 million.
Unfortunately, a thigh injury sidelined the German player prematurely in early May, giving Tottenham ample time to deliberate on his future.

Fabrizio Romano initially reported that Spurs were in discussions with Leipzig regarding an extension of Werner’s loan under the same terms as their previous agreement, a deal later confirmed by the club.
Leipzig’s director Rouven Schroder expressed satisfaction with the arrangement, noting Werner’s positive impact during his loan spell with Tottenham. He wished the player success in the upcoming season.
According to Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou admires Werner’s qualities, and his experience and versatility could be valuable assets during Spurs’ Europa League campaign next season.
Werner demonstrated his worth in Postecoglou’s system, contributing two goals and three assists in 14 appearances for Tottenham this year.
Before his loan move to Tottenham, Werner began the 2023/24 season with two goals and one assist in 14 matches for Leipzig.
However, due in part to his recent injury, Werner was not selected by Germany’s Julian Nagelsmann for the Euro 2024 squad.
Tottenham marks the second English club Werner has represented. He initially joined Chelsea from Leipzig for £47.5 million in 2020, where he became a fan favorite and helped the team secure the Champions League title in his debut season. Despite this, Werner’s goal tally of 23 in 89 appearances was deemed underwhelming, leading to his return to the Red Bull Arena for £25.3 million in 2022.
