In the early stages, Tottenham nearly took the lead when Dejan Kulusevski’s pass found Son Heung-min, whose close-range attempt was thwarted by Matt Turner’s leg just three minutes into the game.
Forest opted to defend deep and counter, with Anthony Elanga testing Guglielmo Vicario, who stood tall to deny the Swede. Turner came to Forest’s aid again when Brennan Johnson’s improvised shot was palmed behind.
Despite facing pressure in the first half, Tottenham took the lead just before halftime when Richarlison headed in Kulusevski’s perfectly delivered cross.
In the second half, Forest threatened from a set piece, but Willy Boly’s effort went over after Elanga found him free in the box. A goal from Elanga was disallowed for offside after a VAR check.
Tottenham’s Kulusevski capitalized on a defensive error to score with his right foot. The match took a turn when Yves Bissouma received a red card after a VAR check for a dangerous challenge, leaving Tottenham with ten men.
