Toni Kroos has hinted at the possibility of returning to Real Madrid in some capacity in the future.

The legendary German midfielder retired at the end of last season, following a remarkable 10-year career at the Spanish club. Kroos’ final match for Madrid was a Champions League final victory over Borussia Dortmund at Wembley, marking his 465th and last appearance for the club.

Since Germany’s exit from Euro 2024 in May, Kroos has not been involved in competitive football. However, during a recent episode of the podcast he co-hosts with his brother Felix, Einfach mal Luppen, Kroos left the door open for a future role at Real Madrid. “At the moment, I’m focused on my projects, but given my close relationship with Madrid, I wouldn’t rule out doing something at the club at some point,” he said.

Kroos spent a decade in Madrid, winning 22 major trophies, including five Champions League titles. Reflecting on his time at the club, he expressed deep affection for Real, saying, “The meaning of Real will always be the same for me. It was a long, great, successful, and also loving time with Real Madrid.”

“I will always be close to Real, there is no doubt about that. And I will always defend Real, always be on Real’s side. That won’t change, the relationship is simply too close,” Kroos added.

Despite his clear attachment to the club, Kroos, who finished ninth in this year’s Ballon d’Or, cautioned that he may not return to the public sphere of the club anytime soon. “To appear now in the public environment of the club? The first thing I would say is no, no matter how close I feel to the club,” he said. “But I’m not saying I won’t do something with Real in the future. I wouldn’t rule it out, although I can’t say what role that might be, or if the club would even want me.”
