At the inaugural leg of the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold in Astana, Kazakhstan, on Saturday, 26-year-old Tobi Amusan achieved another milestone in her illustrious track and field career by breaking Glory Alozie’s African indoor record of 7.82.
The reigning world record holder in the 100m hurdles at 12.12 showcased her prowess in the semifinal heat, clocking an impressive time of 7.91 seconds. Amusan further improved in the final, winning the event with a time of 7.77 seconds, ahead of the 2019 World outdoor champion Nia Ali (7.89) and Irish athlete Sarah Lavin (7.91).
This achievement has positioned Amusan as the second-fastest hurdler in the world for the season, trailing behind Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, who ran 7.75 the previous week at the Corky Classics in Lubbock, Texas. Additionally, Amusan has climbed to the 20th spot on the world all-time list.

Notably, Amusan has now broken all three African records previously held by Glory Alozie. She first surpassed Alozie’s African Games record with a time of 12.68 in 2019, followed by breaking the 12.44 African record with a time of 12.42 on her way to winning her inaugural Diamond League title.
With this latest feat, Amusan solidifies her position as the record-holder in various categories, including Nigeria, Nigerian Championships, African, African Games, African indoor, Commonwealth Games, World Championships, and world records.
