Moukoko, a Cameroonian who won’t turn 18 for another two weeks, is the unexpected addition; this is the first time Die Mannschaft has called up the gifted kid. He has six goals this season in 13 Bundesliga games, six goals in five Under-21 international matches, and no player in league history has scored 10 league goals at a younger age.
Timo Werner’s injury has forced him to withdraw from the race, and Moukoko is the clear winner. Sebastian Kehl, the sporting director for BVB, lauded the “development of his whole package” after the player scored two goals against Bochum over the weekend.
Hummels, a member of the side that won the 2014 World Cup, was left off the roster, although his Dortmund center-back teammate Nico Schlotterbeck was. Armel Bella-Kotchap, a promising defender for Southampton, is also included.
