The theft of a newborn child delivered via Caesarean section at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia by a 20-year-old lady is the subject of an investigation, according to the Nasarawa State Police Command.
On Tuesday, January 9, 2024, a few hours after his birth, a baby boy was reported to have been taken by an unidentified stranger.
Umar Shehu Nadada, the Commissioner of Police, discussed the development during a press conference in Lafia on Wednesday. He stated that three individuals had been detained in relation to the case thus far.

“One Suleiman Abdullahi of Timber Shade went to the A Division Police Station yesterday (Tuesday) and reported that his wife had a Caesarean Section at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia,” he added.
He told how his brother’s wife, who was helping his wife, had intended to return home to grab a charger but had instead given the child to an unidentified woman.
However, she was unable to locate the woman and kid when she returned to the ward. That was how the matter was conveyed to us.
“The State Criminal Investigation Department is currently conducting an investigation, but I don’t believe it has anything to do with ritualists.”
Journalists will be informed of the investigation’s conclusion when it is appropriate.
According to information gathered by our correspondent, the caregiver placed the infant in the care of the stranger at the state-owned Specialist Hospital’s Post-natal Ward at around six in the morning.
The mother of the one-day-old child, Wosilat Suleiman, was asked about her thoughts on the incident and stated, “My relation who was looking after me introduced the strange woman she met in the ward to me before she went home to pick something.”
Before she left for the house, she assured me that the woman would take care of the baby and myself.
“My relative believed that the woman was helping a patient at the ward and that she would help us before leaving.”
“The woman said she wanted to give the baby a bath and then she vanished with him.”
She was experiencing unbearable pain over the loss of her child, so she appealed to the appropriate authorities to assist her in finding her child.
In response to the event, Dr. Mohammed Salihu, the acting head of the hospital’s obstetrics and gynecology department, stated that it was unprecedented for anything of that nature to occur in a medical facility.
He added that the administration and the police were working together to identify the person suspected of carrying out the heinous deed.
“The baby’s mother’s relatives have already been taken into custody, and the police have invited some of our on-duty personnel to be questioned.
He went on, “The management will examine the CCTV footage in order to apprehend the offender.”
