Brentford head coach Thomas Frank argued that Kai Havertz should have received a red card before scoring late in their 2-1 defeat against Arsenal on Saturday.
Arsenal secured their eighth consecutive Premier League win, claiming the top spot in the standings, one point ahead of Liverpool and two points clear of Manchester City before their upcoming clash on Sunday.
After Declan Rice opened the scoring for Arsenal, Yoane Wissa equalized for Brentford following a mistake by Aaron Ramsdale. Havertz then sealed the late victory, propelling Arsenal into first place.

In a post-match interview with Sky Sports, Frank expressed pride in Brentford’s performance, emphasizing their defensive prowess against an in-form Arsenal. However, he contested Havertz’s presence on the pitch during his winning goal, suggesting that the player had dived over a fair challenge from Nathan Collins while already carrying a booking.
“I actually don’t think Havertz should be on the pitch when he scored. It was a clear dive. Maybe it is difficult for the ref, but the linesman should have seen it,” Frank stated.
Frank acknowledged the challenges his team faces and highlighted the importance of favorable outcomes, especially those beyond their control, like refereeing decisions. Despite the loss, he commended his players for a great performance and urged them to continue fighting.
In subsequent remarks to the written press, Frank reiterated his belief that Havertz’s actions warranted a second yellow card and a subsequent red, preventing him from scoring the decisive goal.
