In an interview with SportyTV, Mourinho declined to defend Southgate, saying, “The criticism is entirely justified. When you have teams like France and especially England, with some of the best players in the world, the coaches must be prepared for criticism as part of their job at the highest level.”
Southgate’s future with England is uncertain, as he is expected to take time to decide his next steps. Meanwhile, the English FA has been urged to consider Pep Guardiola for the role if he becomes available. England legend Teddy Sheringham has publicly suggested that Guardiola would be an ideal replacement for Southgate.
