Hassan Abdullahi, a 52-year-old security guard who was kidnapped on December 29 in Gusau, has been freed by Zamfara police.

The man was kidnapped on Friday at around 1.30 am, when gunmen attacked the home he was working at in Sabon Garin Damba, according to police spokeswoman Yazid Abubakar.

In a statement on Friday, Abubakar said that the armed men had attacked the house of one Alhaji Kabiru Umar, a staff of Zamfara College of Art and Science in Gusau, where they went away with the security guard.

“The Divisional Police Officer of Damba Division assembled a group of detectives for a search and rescue mission upon receiving the information.

When they spotted the police, the kidnappers opened fire on the victim’s right hand and fled, possibly suffering from gunshot wounds. They were apprehended by them on the outskirts of Sabon Garin Damba.

The victim is responding to therapy after being saved and brought to Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau, the command official said.

He claimed that locals were congratulated by Mr. Muhammad Shehu, Commissioner of Police, for promptly reporting the event to the authorities.

Shehu also praised the police officers for their prompt action, which resulted in the victim’s rapid rescue.

He promised that until order was restored, the command would keep up its fight against bandits and other criminal groups in the state.
