In an appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Saidu Umar, against the election of Ahmad Aliyu as the governor of Sokoto State, the Supreme Court postponed making a decision on Wednesday.
The five-member panel, presided over by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, heard arguments from the parties to the appeal and postponed the matter for a decision.
The electoral victory of Aliyu was upheld by the Abuja-based Court of Appeal.

Aliyu and his deputy, Idris Gobir, were accused by Umar and the PDP of not being qualified to run for governor.
They further claimed that in addition to being tainted by anomalies, the election was not held in a way that substantially adhered to the guidelines set forth in the Electoral Act of 2022.
However, their case was dismissed by the court of appeals due to its lack of validity.
Unsatisfied, Umar and the PDP went to the highest court.
