Roberto Martinez, a former Belgium coach, was named as the team’s new head coach on Monday, according to the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).

Martinez made his resignation as the team’s coach official after Belgium was eliminated from the World Cup group stage. He claimed that even if his team had won the tournament, he would have left since he had already made up his mind to leave his six-year employment.
The lengthy reign as team manager came to an end after he guided them to third place in the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the top spot in the global rankings.
Fernando Santos, a former coach of Portugal who resigned after his team’s devastating World Cup quarterfinal loss to Morocco, will be replaced by 49-year-old Martinez.
Santos was appointed Portugal’s coach in 2014, and during his tenure, the squad won the UEFA Nations League and the European Championships while he faced heavy criticism for his coaching style.
