The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has convened a crucial meeting with stakeholders to address security concerns for the forthcoming November 11 governorship election in Bayelsa state. INEC emphasized the high priority placed on security preparations for the gubernatorial poll.
The statement from INEC reads, “Happening Now: Security is top on the agenda as a critical meeting between the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and members of the Bayelsa State Chapter of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), gets underway at the INEC State Headquarters, Yenegoa.”
INEC stressed that security agencies play a crucial role in ensuring the success of the Bayelsa governorship election.

The INEC team present at the meeting includes six national commissioners, the technical team, and directors.
Additionally, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, recently appealed to political parties to prioritize peace and avoid violence in the campaign for the November 11 off-season gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo states. He urged political parties to caution their supporters against engaging in violence or disrupting the forthcoming elections in the three states. The campaigns officially began on July 14, 2023, as per the provided timetable and schedule of activities for the governorship elections.
