Erik ten Hag made his presence felt at Manchester United by implementing five stringent rules for the players, and it seems that Jadon Sancho may have violated a few of them.

Sancho’s recent situation at Manchester United has seen him training separately from the first-team squad following a public dispute with his manager after the team’s 3-2 loss to Arsenal in the Premier League.

The Manchester United manager attributed Sancho’s absence from the matchday squad to his performance in training. In response, Sancho posted a lengthy message on social media, disputing his manager’s remarks and feeling as though he was being unfairly singled out as a ‘scapegoat.’

The club has now confirmed that the 23-year-old is training separately as they address the ‘disciplinary issue.’

Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag’s strict set of rules, implemented upon his appointment at Old Trafford, has come to light, with suggestions that Sancho may have violated some of them. Ten Hag’s five commandments included:

1. Players will face consequences if they are late for training or team meetings.
2. Players should abstain from alcohol during game weeks.
3. Players are required to consume meals prepared by the club, and personal chefs are not permitted.
4. Players’ BMI (Body Mass Index) will be checked monthly.
5. Players are encouraged to address concerns directly with Ten Hag rather than involving agents.

Sancho’s adherence to the first rule has reportedly been problematic, as the club set an earlier arrival time for him, requiring him to be at Carrington one hour ahead of the rest of the first-team squad to ensure punctuality.

Furthermore, it can be argued that Sancho may have contravened rule number 5. Instead of privately discussing the matter with his manager, he chose to publicly defend himself, challenging the accuracy of Ten Hag’s statements. While Sancho’s public response can be seen as a reasonable reaction to comments made in a public press conference, the club’s stance is understandable when considering the established rules.
