According to a report, Tyrell Malacia of Manchester United has missed the entire 2023/24 season due to complications surrounding a knee injury sustained last summer. Despite United’s repeated assertions of his imminent return to action, Malacia has not played a single minute of football this term. His absence from social media and public appearances with teammates has fueled speculation about the accuracy of reports regarding his whereabouts.

Reportedly, the left-back underwent surgery on a longstanding knee issue upon returning for pre-season training in July. However, he opted to receive treatment from a surgeon in the Netherlands instead of United’s suggested option in London. Malacia’s camp has admitted to irregular communication with the club and limited updates on his progress.

Complications arose in October when scans revealed remaining cartilage fragments around Malacia’s meniscus. Subsequently, corrective surgery was necessary, delaying his recovery by several months. United confirmed this setback in December, anticipating his return in early 2024.

United temporarily brought in Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham Hotspur to cover for the injured Malacia and Luke Shaw. However, they terminated the deal in January as they believed both left-backs were nearing a return. While Shaw did return briefly before suffering another injury, Malacia is still not ready for team training.

Currently, Malacia is undergoing an intensive solo training regimen in Manchester, the Netherlands, and Barcelona. Despite the likelihood of not returning until pre-season, there is optimism that his extended absence this season will not have any long-term repercussions on his health.
